What I’ve been up to lately
Thank you all for your comments and enquiries about cakes, cookies, macarons and classes! I apologize for my tardy replies and general silence on this blog. As you may already have guessed, I’ve just had a baby girl this March.
Baking pans and kitchen mixers have been replaced with diapers and bottle sterilizers these past 4 months. And have I mentioned the sleepless nights?
That having been said, we’re greatly blessed that Ashley is generally a very happy (and very active) baby. I’m hoping that sanity will be restored in our lives soon and that I’ll be able to bake more frequently.
All I’ve managed so far are 2 trays of brownies, which I wouldn’t even have baked if it weren’t for the fact that I felt embarrassed turning up at a friend’s place empty-handed.
I also wanted to make some sort of cake for my sister’s civil wedding reception, but only managed the bridal bouquet with lots of help from WL, who has a wonderful talent for arranging the most gorgeous bridal bouquets and who also very graciously helped satisfy my macaron cravings these past months.
And that’s all the update I’ve got time and energy for at the moment. I hope to find some time to whip up a batch of macarons soon, so stay tuned! ![]()

How wonderful for all of you - your little cutie definitely looks very alert! I’ve pretty much lost touch with blogging due to my own seven-month old little Miss Wonderful - but I’m sure you’ll do better!

Congrats on your baby girl! I myself just had a baby in January so I know where you are at.
My son’s 1rst birthday is coming up and his favorite toy is a giraffe, and I saw your giraffe cake and I have that exact cook book with that layout, ect. I want to make that cake. But I am not sure the best way seeing you had trouble with it. Would you give me advice? My thoughts were using fondant for the giraffe or should I use royal icing on wax paper? Also I was thinking of using fondant for the bottom of the giraffe like you did, but how I am not sure? Does the fondant get hard? I was just going to place it on top of the cake and basically remove it for eating….Thanks for reading this and if you have any help or advice I would GREATLY appreciate it. Christina

Hi Karen,
Your daughter is very Very VERY beautiful and cheerful!
I am very impressed by the photos taken by you (was it you?). All very well taken. May I know what camera and lenses you are using. Thought of getting one to replace my compact camera.
Can you send me an email cos I don’t often surf the net and sometimes just forgot where i visit.
Thanks and keep going with the blog…
